Volume 1
Fledgling Homicide detective Abbey Rhodes investigates the murder of a young East Nashville pastor found dead in the bottom of his church’s baptistry. Paired with Abe Tidwell, an apathetic, aging detective just biding his time until retirement, Abbey must convince her partner that the obvious suspect is not the real murderer. Then, she must overcome her deep prejudice against churches and a dark secret that anchors her past to a painful past.
As Abbey and Abe discover the pastor’s plans to eliminate the church’s corrupting elements and implement a new vision, they realize their list of suspects grows to include church leaders, whom the young pastor considers friends. The case of the Water Grave triggers painful memories and pushes Abbey to her breaking point.

Praise for Mitchell's Works
This storyline was a totally new and very intriguing plot to me! First book by this author and I really enjoyed it. Two brothers having been pitted against each other after the murder of their parents. Graham, the protagonist, is an assassin who I didn’t really like in the beginning. But as you are reading and introduced to his brother, you wrangle with which one to hate and which one to like. The author did a great job developing the characters and their personalities, along with a great storyline.
It is a multilayered plot but it is not hard to follow. This mystery suspense had no ah-ha moment to discovering the murderers. Graham’s forgotten past will take its course to revealing the murderer and why and it helps him to solve the mystery but then the question becomes: family or justice? Evil vs good? Ultimately the decision will affect him for the rest of his life. The suspense in this book is very good!
